Have you ever heard why lion is called the King of the Animal, the King of the Forest? I found this in Indian folklore.
Suppose there are two pathways in the forest. One pathway seems to be easier to pass through since other animals/ creatures follow the path, and the other seems to be difficult to pass through. Lion will surely choose the difficult one, the one which other creatures might never choose. Not like an elephant. Big body, but always follow the path passed by others before. The lion is the pioneer. That is why lion is called the King, and inspired literatures, sculptures, and paintings as well.
A last posting from Nijmegen this period, 2008. Alle beste for you all, and happy father day!
PS. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands which is also called Noviomagus (Romans), symbolized by Lion.

Thanks for the story on the Lion as King of the Forest. I never new about the similitude between the Lion and the Pioneer. A very interesting analogy indeed.
In Malaysia, there is no lion, and the tiger is the national animal. There is a Malay proverb that says, "the dead tiger leaves behind its stripes, while a dead person leaves behind his deeds."
This tells us to know no bound in helping people, doing good deeds, and the like. A university administrator must be willing to sacrifice for the betterment of the institution; like the tiger and lead like the lion.
Ohya? That is very interesting, Faizal. We also have proverb: "Harimau mati meninggalkan belang, manusia mati meninggalkan amal" means exactly the same as you wrote.
Later I would try to share also a book written by Daoed Joesoef, a summa-cumlaude phylosophical doctor of La Sorbonne, France. He was Ministry of Education of Indonesia. The book entitled "Emak" (Mother), talking about Daoed Joesoef`s illiterate mother who always thaught Daoed to do things he fears to become a pioneer.
Actually, the Malaysian proverb is, "Harimau mati meninggalkan belang, manusia mati meninggalkan NAMA." This means that the tiger leaves behind its stripes, while men/women leave behind their NAME.
Talking about tiger, by the time you read this, TIGER Woods would have won the US Open. Growl.
Yatta! Did Tiger Woods win US Open already? I saw his game also, Faizal, but I did not concentrate on the tivi that night. I saw it while doing something else. Besides, I do not like to see golf competition. I like football. Ha. Ha. But, congratulation.
