Interpretive Literature

This is my first posting from my beloved town, Yogyakarta. After returning back again from a semi-long journey, it is so good to enjoy time in my small library. I found again "50 Great Short Stories" edited by Milton Crane where inside there is a short story about "The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse". I found also "The Old Man and The Sea" of Hemingway, "The Necklace" of Guy de Maupassant, my great junior high school book "Musashi" of Eiji Yoshikawa, some literatures of Kafka, series of "Winnetou" and other books of Karl May, etc. I also found "The Myth of Sisyphus", essays by Albert Camus. Last but not least, of course some Indonesian short stories and novels.

I think interpretive literature helps me to understand more about human existence, to broaden mind, during my school days.

However, my question is: In nowadays activities, do we realize that it is really good to have 10-30 minutes rest during our hectic days to stay alone, read inspirational pages, write, or think? Most of the time, I forget to do it. And I think I miss to do it.

Have a great day ahead! Salam saking Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat.

Congratulations on your short sojourn in Holland, Ika. You must be happy to be back in the arms of your family. I'm sure it has been a successful one.

The impressive list of literary works in your library can definitely shape our minds and open up our thinking process, much so like what de Bono does with his six thinking hats. The problem with us is that we sometimes wear only one hat all the time. IDCSEA2008 has taught us to use the six hats in situations that we come across as university managers.

Your question will be answered in the sequel to this comment. Cheers.

We should reserve some time for our own self. This is easier said than done. As dean, it is quite difficult for me to close the door and pretend i'm not in.

The phone never stops ringing, and by the time we leave the office, we have lost the time to ourselves.

One thing for sure that i reserve and cherish is the lunch hour. The one hour is spent on a light lunch and forty winks. By then, i am rejuvenated can go through the day.

Dear Faizal, thank you very much for nice words and sequel you sent. I experienced: When the student is ready, the teacher appears. I found your sequel is very helpful! The teacher (your sequel) came!
Finally, I have to realize that I have to manage my time, my mind. I will start to do as what you have been doing so far. Reserve and cherish lunch hour.
I have to say to myself: Time management depends on mind management. And mind management is the essence of life management.
Thank you again, and have a nice evening!
